Harry Giese, First Northern Territory Ombudsman, 1978

'Short, simply written brochures covering the role and functions of the Ombudsman and how and where complaints can be registered have been prepared, not only in English but in a range of ethnic and Aboriginal languages as well...' [these included Italian, Greek, French, Serbo-Croat, Portuguese, Spanish and Chinese]

'Arrangements are being made for some of these translations to be taped and to be widely distributed throughout the ethnic communities. They will be made available also for radio and other programmes.'

[Translations into Indigenous languages from Central Arnhem Land and the Tiwi Islands and an Aranda translation] 'will be available shortly for circulation. As they can be arranged, further translations will be made into several more of the main Aboriginal languages.'
